who we are
Meet Marisa ..... Meet Kelly ..... Meet TJ ..... Meet Greg ..... Q'ed Up Alumni

Marisa has loved to sing since she was a little girl. Her earliest music memories are of sitting at the dining room table with her dad while he play the hi-fi stereo and whistled. From then on, she was hooked. She sang with the Lakeview Choir and the Oakland Children's Chorus, where performances included the TV shows "Young Sounds of Spring" and "Creature Features." She's very excited to have been a part of Q'ed Up since 2007 and enjoys the intricate harmonies the group offers. You might catch Marisa either on stage with local community theatres or perhaps on a local TV commercial or ad, as she pursues her love of acting! She's also proud to be a part of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church Praise Team and a part of the R&B/Jazz band Private Practice. You can check out her website for what's she's been up to at www.marisabarley.com

Musical influences include Natalie Cole, Earth Wind and Fire, the sounds of Motown and more recently Alicia Keys. Marisa studies voice at Loree Capper Studios and acting with First Take Acting. Her home is filled with music all the time. Her husband sings, too, and their son plays guitar and drums and writes and performs original music with the band Coastwar (formerly Stateside). She's very thankful for such a supportive family and all the blessings in her life.

Music was at the center of TJ's life growing up. His father was a DJ for local radio stations, and is an accomplished musician in his own right. TJ's mom and dad sang all the time, so it was only natural that he would acquire a love for music. Along with singing, TJ started playing drums at age 4, had his first paid gig (as a dancer) at age 7, and has been performing in one form or another ever since. His musical influences are varied, including such artists as Michael MacDonald, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Sting, Michael Jackson, Kenny Loggins, Brian McKnight and many others. His singing career kicked off during his senior year in high school, where he sang with the madrigal and concert choirs. He has studied with vocal coach Audrey Hunt, and has also done some opera work with vocal coach Angel Michaels. He has worked on a number of recording projects (with groups such as Crosswind, and the Carondelet/De LaSalle High School Adult Chorus), and is looking forward to completing his first solo recording in the near future.

TJ is married with five beautiful children. Besides music, he loves sports, games of all kinds, reading, spending time with loved ones, and helping others every chance he gets.

Kelly has been singing "all her life". Her first performance experience came when she was in the pre-school choir at her church - and she hasn't stopped since. Kelly continued singing with her Madrigal group in high school and was part of the UC Davis chorus. She sang for several years with Crosswind, an eight-part a capella choir group from her church, with whom she also recorded a CD. Kelly is one of the founding members of Q'ed Up, and has helped move the group into singing more jazz and tight harmonies. She also has a fair bit of dance experience, and tries to choreograph any and all numbers sung by Q'ed Up. Sometimes the rest of the group even enjoys the dancing.

Kelly has three wonderful children. In real life, she is an educator, teaching full-time at a local elementary school working with Special Education students.

Greg grew up in a home where music happened every day. He followed his mother around, singing everything she did, from musicals to opera. A love of music has stayed with Greg his whole life. He was involved in several choirs, and has been on stage singing in a couple of musical presentations. He also enjoys instrumental music, playing in the band and jazz band in high school and college. Currently, Greg plays oboe in a local community concert band. Greg joined Q'ed Up a few years ago to sing at a Christmas party, and has been with them ever since. Besides music, he enjoys games, travel, good books, movies, and plays a fair bit of golf (but rather poorly). He also loves spending time with his wonderful wife and three terrific children (who also all sing!).
